Collaborative solutions for students, families, and schools.
Collaborative solutions for students, families, and schools.
At Bridge the Gap Advocacy, our goal is to bridge the gap in your child's educational and functional needs with comprehensive IEPs. We can help you learn more about the IEP process, coach you to become your child's advocate, and attend IEP meetings. Let us help bridge the gap between you and the school district to ensure your student achieves academic and functional success through collaborative IEP development.
I am a non-attorney special education advocate. I have my Master's degree in Developmental Studies from Purdue University. I am COPAA (Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates) trained. I have also completed Wrightslaw Advocacy training and Master IEP Coach®. I have worked as a special education advocate with families for four years. I enjoy helping parents ensure that their children receive the education they need.
I started in advocacy when I was in graduate school at Purdue University. I became a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer. As a CASA, I advocated for children in the abuse and neglect system and gave them a voice in court. I interned with CASA, where I created a non-profit, CASAs for Kids, where we collected donations for kids in the abuse and neglect system outside the state's purview. Upon graduating with my Master's degree, I became the Assistant Director of Tippecanoe County CASA. I also worked as a Program Coordinator for Maricopa County CASA. I have always been passionate about helping children; these were outstanding experiences.
My journey into special education advocacy started when my son was diagnosed with autism. I didn't know anything about autism, disability, or IEPs. I felt lost and alone. I was eager to immerse myself in the unfamiliar environment and expand my knowledge. I participated in the Partners in Leadership program, and my perspective on everything changed. That's when I started educating myself about special education. I was determined to find ways to help my son and share this valuable knowledge with others to ensure they never felt the same way I did.
I can help you understand the IEP process, coach you so you feel like an equal member at the IEP table, and attend IEP meetings. I can bridge the gap between you, the school, and your child's educational journey.
Briefly tell me the top 3 things you would like to discuss.
I will review documentation, including current and previous IEPs, MET reports, evaluations, and progress reports for the last year.
